The Judgment of Heaven

Let’s start with this –

There is no one here
to save you. The bar closed
hours ago, and the wind
cuts through your coat.
You are the decoration
for a party that is over,
the opposite of anticipation.
You can’t avoid it anymore.
What will rinse the blood
off your hands? If only the ads
were true, if only someone
sold a product that could get
the tough stains out, if only
you could make yourself look
like nothing ever happened.
